Jaylene and her mother have moved to Jackson to join the Dancing Dolls. The Dolls are doing a western-themed creative dance routine and Jaylene is cast as the sheriff and she will choreograph her part.
Jaylene shows the team the choreography she has come up with and Miss D tells her that she is not putting enough choreography into the solo. She is dismissed from the studio.
The day before the choreography, Jaylene shows Miss D her solo again and Dianna says it is still not good enough. She wants Jaylene to show more facial expressions and attitude in her performance.
On the day of the competition, Jaylene's solo goes well and the team are awarded first place.
Jaylene is one of the girls who audition for the call-out round. The dancers pair up and battle each other and Jaylene and Kanarie battle. Jaylene did well in her battle and she is chosen to compete in the call-out round with Crystianna and Princess.
The next day, Jaylene and Maraela are driving to practice and Jaylene says she is nervous about the call-out round and she does not want to let Miss D down. Maraela advises her to not be intimidated and to be herself.
At the competition, Jaylene shows off her contortionist moves and she wins her round.
The creative dance is based on social awareness and Miss D has chosen to address the history of women's rights. Jaylene is the female lead and Torrey is the male lead. Miss D thinks Jaylene's broad knowledge of many dance styles will be useful for creative dance.
In the first section of the dance, the team works on addressing women's right to vote. Jaylene and Torrey will dance in union to show the equality between men and women. The next section is based on the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The section after this addresses election day but they change the story so Jaylene as Hilary Clinton wins the election. Miss D talks Jaylene through each section of the dance and her solo.
Jaylene and Maraela are in the car the next day and Jaylene is worried about her stamina for this performance. Maraela tells Jaylene to be mentally strong and she will be able to do it. That evening, Dianna added a new section to the routine about women in the workplace and equal pay.
On the day of the competition, the team begin the routine and it is going well. After they complete the section about women in the workplace, the dancers run backstage whilst the Baby Dancing Dolls perform a routine. Whilst the team are changing costumes, Jaylene is struggling to breathe but the team manages to calm her down before they go back on stage. The team finished the routine and the DDP loved it.
The team win the creative dance category and Jaylene goes up to accept the trophy. Dianna congratulates Jaylene and Torrey.
The stand battle must include props this week and Jaylene must create a solo using an exercise ball. Her solo goes down well at the competition as she incorporates her contortion skills into it. She does a handstand whilst holding the ball with her feet.
Jaylene is on Makya's team during the captain's battle between Makya and Crystianna.
The team are doing an Egyptian-themed creative dance and Jaylene is given the role of the Egyptian queen, Nefertiti. She performs well in the competition.
So You Think You Can Choreograph?
The seniors are tasked with each creating a trio and Miss D will pick which one will be used at the competition. Jaylene is in Faith's team with Kanarie and Daija. Their trio is not chosen for the competition.
Dianna notices that Jaylene seems to be off at practice and she is not dancing well. Dianna is critiquing her and Maraela becomes frustrated at Dianna. Jaylene says she is not mentally at practice at the moment. Jaylene continues to struggle and Miss D tells her she needs to improve and fix her face. Miss D dismisses the rest of the team and calls over Jaylene.
The pair sit down and Miss D asks her what is wrong. Jaylene tells Dianna about her grandmother being ill and that she is nervous for her. Her great-aunt died not long ago and now her grandmother is alone in New York. Miss D thanks her for telling her what is going on and tells her to let practice be the place where she can forget about those things for a while. They hug.
The next day, at Maraela's home, Jaylene and her mother have a baby hedgehog as a pet. Maraela believes there is more going on with her daughter than the recent deaths in their family. Maraela asks Jaylene about last night and Jaylene says she cannot focus because of recent events. Maraela empathises with her as they did make a big move from New York to Jackson, and Jaylene does not have a lot of friends in Mississippi. She asks if Jaylene wants to hang out with the girls outside of practice. Jaylene is unsure and her mother asks her to try and make friends with the girls at practice and Jaylene says she will.
On Saturday, the DDP, the Dolls, and the boys go to a trampoline park. Maraela is happy to see Jaylene is having fun and getting closer to the team.
On Sunday, the team are at the competition. The team are participating in an elimination stand battle and during the first stand, Jaylene impresses the crowd with her stunts. The other team decide to vote her off first and she is disappointed she didn't get to perform longer.
A Boy, A Kiss, And A Choreographer
The team is split into pairs and each pair is given an hour to come up with a duet. Jaylene and Daija are a pair and Faith is coaching them. They come up with a routine about Faith's relationship with her mother. Each duet performs for Miss D and she chooses Jaylene and Daija's duet.
The next day, Jaylene and Daija are struggling with the stunts and with dancing together. Faith and Dianna are not happy with the pair.
The day after, Jaylene's timing is wrong and the pair are not showing emotion. Dana is worried about the duet.
At the competition, the duet goes well and Dana is touched by the performance. They won second place in the duet category.
Jaylene injured her right shoulder last week after one of the stunts from the duet. Jaylene tells her mother she has rested her shoulder and she feels confident she will do well in the music video auditions.
She does the audition and the music video choreographer cuts her; she tells Jaylene that she does not think Jaylene will be able to dance with her injury.
